Since 1989, The European Institute has pursued a goal of maintaining and renewing US-European relations while European integration proceeds and the Atlantic Alliance evolves. As the Transatlantic relationship is increasingly challenged with conflicts and issues to resolve, it is important to encourage those leaders who seek to sustain the dialogue between the United States and Europe. Initiated in 1994, the Transatlantic Leadership Award recognizes one European leader or one American leader who have demonstrated a commitment to the renewal of the transatlantic relationship.
